ANCA Board Appoints Donald L. Caldera President

April 23, 2008 - At a special Adirondack North Country Association Board of Directors’ meeting held on April 23, 2008, Donald L. Caldera was appointed to the position of ANCA Board President to succeed outgoing President, Ronald Ofner. Ofner will remain a contributing member of the Board and has recently been appointed Executive Director of the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council. "I welcome this opportunity to assume the Presidency of ANCA and to help our members, businesses and communities from throughout our fourteen upstate counties to address the many economic and quality of life issues we face collectively," Caldera stated.

Elected to the ANCA Board in 1999 and Board Secretary since 2002, Caldera is a Lake Placid resident whose background is as a career manager and entrepreneur with 45 years of corporate experience in acquisitions, development, finance and senior operating posts. Since 1999, he has owned Country Business Services LLC, a Lake Placid affiliate of New England’s largest business brokerage group, CBI Inc., and is a licensed real estate broker.

A native of New York’s Hudson Valley and a Lake Placid homeowner since 1974, Caldera received a JD from Yale Law School in 1960, following a BS in engineering from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. He is a member of the New York Bar, the American Arbitration Association, the International Business Broker Association, the New York Association of Business Brokers and the New York State Association of Realtors. He has served as a Director of the Mercy Uihlein Healthcare Corp. and the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. Caldera is a NY Licensed Real Estate Broker and an active and good standing member of the Northern Adirondack Board of Realtors.

Prior to his North Country residency, Caldera was principal in a Palm Beach merchant bank, EVP Development of a maritime energy services company that he helped to take through an initial public offering. Prior thereto, he was CEO of a Geneva Switzerland based joint venture for cruising, hotels and tourism in the Soviet Union, an assignment which followed his successful turnaround, as Chairman/CEO, of a three vessel cruise line that he expanded, publicly financed and subsequently sold. Pre-1985, he was SR VP of the US’s largest inland waterways conglomerate, served as COO of a 21 ship joint venture between a major oil company and private investors, and was in an LBO of a large motor carrier group. Caldera’s initial business experience was at an international shipping firm where he had legal, technical and operating responsibilities.

The ANCA Board of Directors’ Officers include Paul Cantwell, Vice President; Dale Brown, Treasurer; Richard Bird, Central Region Vice President; Stephen Erman, Northern Region Vice President, Kenneth Parker, Southeastern Region Vice President and John Bartow, Western Region Vice President. The ANCA Board of Directors consists of 24 members from the public and private sectors representing the 14-county Adirondack North Country Region.
