Market Trend Assessment of Scenic Byway Visitors RFP

May 7, 2008

Dear Colleague:

The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) has received several grants to promote Scenic Byway communities along special touring routes across the North Country region. The series of promotional projects will stimulate tourist visitation to natural, cultural, historical, scenic, and recreational resources in towns and villages and increase visitor spending at attractions, events, and businesses in the fourteen counties.

One of the projects is a Market Trend Assessment of Scenic Byway Visitors. ANCA plans to hire a market research firm to assess perceptions, interests, and visitation patterns of today’s travelers in the region, including those who use the interconnected system of State Scenic Byway touring routes in northern New York. The firm will identify visitation trends that have the greatest potential for the future success of tourism for the region.

ANCA is requesting proposals from qualified market research firms interested in developing methodology, conducting research, and reporting outcomes and recommendations for the Market Trend Assessment. For this project, ANCA has contracted with Susan Fuller of Fuller Communications to work directly with the market research firm as project coordinator.

A detailed description of the desired scope of services and project deliverables is attached. ANCA and Fuller will evaluate all proposals received.

Finalist firms will be invited to meet with the ANCA project team to discuss their respective qualifications and proposals. At that time, they will be asked to provide an overview of their intended Work Plan elements and time frames. ANCA will select the project contractor who demonstrates the necessary skills and expertise to handle all phases of the project development and delivery using these decision criteria:
  • Creative and imaginative approach to achieve project’s Strategic Goals and Priorities
  • Organizational, project, and budget management successes with projects of this scope
  • Demonstrated experience in developing research-based marketing information
  • Compatibility with ANCA team
  • Value of services for proposed fees
ANCA estimates that the project will begin in Summer 2008 and it is expected to last approximately four to five months. There is a $31,000 budget available for the Marketing Trend Assessment. The contract signing will be followed by an immediate project launch.

Applicants are asked to submit four copies of a proposal that addresses the required information listed on the attached Appendix A. Proposals are to be addressed to Terry Martino, Executive Director, Adirondack North Country Association, 28 St. Bernard Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 by June 4, 2008. Questions regarding the project can be directed to Sharon O’Brien, Program Coordinator at (518) 891-6200 or anca-obrien@northnet.org.

The project is funded by a grant to the New York State Scenic Byways Program through the Federal Highway Administration and the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century of 1998. The Adirondack North Country Association is committed to economically viable communities and an improved rural quality of life.>

Sincerely yours,

Sharon O’Brien, Program Coordinator and Terry Martino, Executive Director
