The Town of Chester's new wood pellet boiler is using locally produced wood pellets to fuel a high-efficiency steam system -- a project that saves money and decreases greenhouse gas emissions.
The project -- the first pellet-fed steam system of its kind in New York -- received 65% of its funding from a NYSERDA and the USDA.
Town Supervisor Craig Leggett estimates that burning wood pellets will reduce the town's use of fuel oil by about 11,000 gallons each year. That's worth celebrating!
