Compost Tea and Extract Workshop

When: Friday, October 13, 2023, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Where: 23 Bills Lane, Jay, NY

Join the Compost for Good team for a hands-on workshop to learn the process and benefits of making and applying compost teas and extracts — an effective way of transferring compost microbiology into the soil to build a more robust soil food web. We’ll brew compost extract and look at samples under the microscope to get a glimpse of the life we are trying to promote in our composts and soils. 

 

Clarkson Sustainability Day

When: Saturday, October 28, 2023
Where: Clarkson University

This event is free and open to the public. 

The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley and Paul Smith’s College are pleased to announce that the annual Sustainability Day and Green Living Festival will take place on October 28, 2023 at Clarkson University. This event is a true academic-community initiative to celebrate, share and learn about sustainability initiatives and opportunities on our campuses and in our communities. Compost for Good will host a table demonstrating soil and compost microscopy.

Organics Upcycling: From Waste to Resource

When and Where: Monday, October 30, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Lake Placid Pub & Brewery and Thursday, November 2, 2023, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at St. Joe’s Food Pantry in Plattsburgh. 

CfG is co-hosting this event with the Clinton County Health Department and the Center for EcoTechnology to present community based options and strategies to reduce food waste.

Soil Health For Vegetable Growers Workshop

When: Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm.
Where: Whallonsburg Grange, Essex, NY
Cost: $30

This workshop will present strategies to improve soil health through techniques such as tarping, cover cropping, no-till and compost application. Compost for Good will present on the soil food web and microscopy. 1.75 DEC pesticide recertification credits available in categories 1A, 10, and 23.

Adirondack Youth Climate Summit 

When: Wednesday-Thursday, November 8-9, 2023
Where: The Wild Center, Tupper Lake 

Over 100 high school students from various schools and community groups across Northern New York State will be in attendance! We combine informative plenary sessions and workshops in a fun atmosphere for a powerful 2-day educational experience. At the Summit, students will develop a climate action plan that they can use to implement climate solutions in their own community. Compost for Good will be offering a soil health workshop discussing the relationship between soil health and climate goals as well as professional opportunities related to the field of composting.

North Country Compost Site Operator and Food Scrap Hauler Gathering

An informal gathering of North Country compost site operators and food scrap haulers to share challenges, opportunities and to identify potential collaborations; bring a dish to share.
