North Country Community Composting Coalition

The North Country Community Composting Coalition (N4C) is a group of community-scale composters located in the NY North Country who haul food scraps and/or generate compost. Members of N4C have taken a pledge to work in collaboration with one another in support of a regional circular economy to generate the highest quality compost possible.

The N4C Pledge

1. We commit to doing this work in solidarity to lift each other up, not compete in a market. We will not commodify knowledge shared by good will for our own benefit over the well-being of others, or take knowledge shared and poach other’s markets with it.

2. As our operations grow, we will ensure our employees are beneficiaries of that growth.

3. We will use our organization to pursue socially just and equitable communities.  and, in the future, extend solidarity and knowledge to others entering this work so we may grow it together.

4. We commit to ecology and manifesting ecological intent through practice.

5. We will pursue source separation at the highest level, helping to protect soil from toxins and microplastics, and other forms of contamination, and help to build a market baseline that raises the bar, not lower it.

6. We will build a culture of stewardship within our organization, our customers and our community.
