Nancy has been living with and promoting her passion for clean, renewable
energy for years, and enjoys sharing her experience and knowledge as an
ANCA Energy Circuit Rider.
After graduating from Cornell University with a B.S. in Biology, Nancy taught
river ecology and marine science for several years onboard sailing ships.
Settling down in the Adirondacks in 1990, Nancy built an off-grid solar home
where she raised her now adult son, and began a 20-year career in the
building trades as a timber framer, carpenter, and instructor. During that time,
Nancy organized local green building home tours, and coordinated Solarize
Tri-Lakes, a 2-year educational campaign to increase awareness about solar
energy. Nancy also creates freelance nature illustrations and maps of the
Adirondack region (www.nancybernsteinillustration.com).
Outside of work, Nancy serves on her local school board and spends time
skiing, hiking, paddling and camping throughout the region. When time allows,
you’ll find her at home gardening, playing her five-string banjo or planning her
next travel adventure.
